Potrivit britanicilor de la Universitatea din Cambridge, in urma studiilor realizate au trans concluzia ca orice antrenament trebuie sa aiba 3 etape: o etapa de pregatire, o etapa de efort intens si o etapa de relaxare post efort.
Dupa acesta au stabilit care este intenistatea ritmului pentru fiecare dintre etapele de mai sus (BPM). Ulterior, pe baza BPM-ului au ales cele mai potrivite piese de ascultat in timpul antrenamentelor, luand in calcul in acelasi timp si mesajul, textul, si starea e care piesa respectiva trebuie sa ti-o transmita in fiecare moment al antrenamentului:
